Bilal Cheema

Community Advocate

Bilal Cheema has significant years of experience spanning community, corporate and bureaucratic environments. He is a professional who is routinely trusted with complex project management, dissecting regulatory matters and designing and implementing robust business development strategies.

It was the unique concept of HCFH that grabbed Bilal’s attention back in 2017 when it was just a dinner conversation amongst friends.  Bilal had just read the Federal Government of Canada’s ‘Joint Statement of Action to Address the Opioid Crisis’ and the mandate included increasing non-pharmaceutical based pain management strategies. Dinner with a local health professional who was looking for a way to help people in Vancouver’s downtown east side, North America’s ground zero of the opioid crisis, sounded like it was directly on the par with a strategy shift and awakening in higher places.  Bilal encouraged Dr. Gohar Sheikh to put together a plan and offered his help and support.

Officially Bilal joined the Board of HCFH in 2019, but he has been involved in some manner or another since in its early developmental steps including its conception, the first 2 international missions overseas, and recently joining forces with local care centres in Vancouver’s downtown east side to help provide access to health services and treatments for the poor, homeless and marginalized.

Bilal’s relentless support of a wide range of community and charitable organizations that align with his values, both domestic and international, made his choice to help HCFH reach its full potential an easy decision for him.

Currently Bilal is working hard to pursue meaningful and sustainable relations between HCFH and British Columbia’s First Nations.  His objective is to take the model that will eventually be forged out of collaboration with the local First Nations, nationally across Canada.

Despite all his busy activities and travels, Bilal frequently speaks on issues spanning human rights, social justice and relationship building, and it is in this additional capacity that Bilal is also one of HCFH’s key spokespeople.

Bilal and his wife Sana are proud parents of three beautiful children.
