Our Vision

It is the vision of HCFH to be the premier trusted platform for a growing roster of passionate humanitarian healthcare professionals. Doctors and therapists who would routinely travel across to the ‘wrong side’ of town or the far corners of the globe to ease human suffering.

As a result they become visionary leaders and role models in their own communities.

The team behind HCFH is mission-driven with the critical purpose of facilitating the provision of safe, effective and sustainable healthcare intended to reduce pain, restore mobility, regain function and rebuild dignity in the lives of those who are deemed marginalized. These are people who may not otherwise have access to such services and who stand to gain the most benefit from such healthcare while reducing their dependence on pharmaceuticals or illicit drugs.

HCFH is uniquely qualified to recruit and deploy those licensed healthcare professionals to make the most impact where and when needed.

Presence: Canada

Being a not-for-profit charitable organization registered in Canada, HCFH has a strong commitment to the adage ‘charity begins at home’. As such, it’s resources and efforts are focused on treatment of MSK conditions and diseases for people in Canada who live in poverty, are afflicted with addictions, or who have barriers to receiving the most appropriate care for their pain or disability.

In the Canadian context, there are two current priorities:

The first being effective MSK treatment options to help reduce mortality, morbidity and the costs related to the current opioid crisis.

Second, effective MSK treatment options which align with First Nation / Indigenous people’s beliefs, are consistent with their values and can help reduce dependence on drugs, alcohol or other illicit substances, with special attention given to First Nations women and children.

Impact: South Asia

HCFH is equally committed to making a global impact against the rise in physical pain and disability, and increasing financial costs due to prevalence of MSK conditions and disorders, which are especially burdened by poor, disadvantaged and marginalized people. Research has demonstrated that MSK conditions cause disproportionately greater negative effects on the lives, livelihoods and future potential of these people. The United Nations reports ‘most people living below the poverty line belong predominantly to two regions: Southern Asia and sub-Saharan Africa; for this reason HCFH has specifically looked at South Asia to start its international efforts.

Position

The complexity of our society and its relationship with poverty, homelessness, chronic pain, suicide, alcoholism and drug abuse have positioned HCFH at a very busy intersection. This is where true collaboration and multidisciplinary healthcare efforts are an absolute necessity- due to the dire need, and due to the social devastation caused at many levels of our communities by the recent opioid crisis. These problems require real-world practical solutions, and HCFH is ready to help.

Being solution driven, HCFH has built a platform-based model to help marginalized communities by providing people safe, effective and easily administered treatments – such as manual medicine. Through this platform, HCFH offers these people with much deserved pain relief, and thereby also opens a new window of opportunity to address deeper issues related to their health and socioeconomic circumstances.

The HCFH model and platform further empowers the healthcare professionals and other volunteers themselves by reconnecting them to their own purpose, passion and power. On a greater scale – this reinvigorates all of us as humanitarians, and enriches our personal and professional lives.
